Project overview
Marketplaces can be a powerful way to reach customers, but they come with a trade-off. The platform controls much of the transaction environment, seller fees affect every order, and the relationship between the business and its customers remains tied to a third-party channel.
For Klik Alfa Medika, that was not the foundation they wanted to depend on for long-term digital growth.
The pharmacy wanted its own online commerce channel where customers could discover products, place orders, manage their accounts, and return for future purchases directly with Klik Alfa Medika.
Just as importantly, the business wanted greater ownership of the customer relationship and the data created through those interactions.
Suova worked with Klik Alfa Medika to create an owned digital commerce platform designed around the realities of pharmacy retail, giving the business a direct sales channel that could grow alongside its offline and marketplace presence.
Challenge
When marketplaces are useful, but not enough
Klik Alfa Medika already understood the value of selling online. The bigger question was how to do it without making third-party marketplaces the center of its digital business.
Relying too heavily on marketplaces created several limitations.
Every marketplace order came with platform economics that Klik Alfa Medika could not fully control. Fees, promotional mechanics, platform policies, and changes to seller programs could directly affect margins.
Customer relationships were another concern. When most digital transactions happen through someone else's platform, it becomes harder to develop a complete view of customers, understand repeat purchasing behavior, and create retention programs around the business's own data.
Offline sales presented the opposite problem. The relationship was direct, but customer and transaction information was harder to turn into a scalable digital asset.
Klik Alfa Medika needed a third path.
A channel that complemented its offline and marketplace sales while giving the business more control over:
- Customer accounts and purchase records
- Product and pricing management
- Direct transactions
- Loyalty and repeat engagement
- Pharmacy-specific customer journeys
- Future marketing and customer retention initiatives
The goal was never to abandon marketplaces completely.
It was to make sure Klik Alfa Medika had a digital channel it could own.
Solution
An owned commerce experience designed around pharmacy retail
Suova developed a dedicated web commerce platform that allows Klik Alfa Medika to serve customers directly through its own digital environment.
The experience was designed around how people actually shop for pharmacy and healthcare products.
Customers can search and browse products across categories including medicines, medical devices, skincare, consumer goods, standardized herbal medicines, vitamins, and supplements.
For products that require additional care, the experience goes beyond a conventional online store. Prescription requirements can be communicated clearly, customers have access to prescription upload functionality, and pharmacist chat creates another path for assistance when needed.
Customer accounts and transaction records give Klik Alfa Medika a direct foundation for understanding purchases made through its own channel.
Loyalty points add a retention layer to the experience, creating a reason for customers to return beyond a single transaction.
The result is not simply another place to list products.
It is commerce infrastructure that Klik Alfa Medika controls.
Project story
Making the owned channel valuable beyond the first purchase
Launching an independent online store only creates value if customers have a reason to use it.
That meant the platform needed to do more than reproduce a marketplace catalog on a different domain.
The experience was shaped around three areas.
Making pharmacy products easier to discover
Healthcare shopping can involve very different customer needs.
Someone looking for a daily supplement behaves differently from someone searching for a specific medicine or medical device.
Clear categorization, product search, structured product information, pricing, and stock visibility help customers move from intent to the right product with less friction.
Supporting pharmacy-specific journeys
A pharmacy is not generic retail.
Some products require prescriptions and customers may need professional guidance before making a purchase.
Prescription upload and access to pharmacist chat allow those needs to sit closer to the commerce journey rather than becoming disconnected manual steps.
Creating a foundation for repeat relationships
A marketplace transaction can end when an order is completed.
An owned channel creates an opportunity for the relationship to continue.
Customer accounts, transaction history, and loyalty points give Klik Alfa Medika a foundation for understanding repeat customers and developing future retention initiatives using data generated through direct interactions.
The website therefore becomes more than a sales endpoint.
Each direct transaction contributes to a customer relationship Klik Alfa Medika can continue developing over time.

10%

Control Customer Data

Outcome
A digital asset that becomes more valuable over time
Klik Alfa Medika now has a digital commerce channel that serves a different strategic purpose from a marketplace.
Marketplaces can continue to support reach and customer acquisition. Offline locations can continue serving customers who prefer direct pharmacy interactions.
The owned platform adds something neither channel can provide in the same way: a digital environment where Klik Alfa Medika controls the customer experience, commerce data, retention mechanics, and direction of future development.
That creates greater flexibility in how the business approaches pricing, campaigns, loyalty, customer communication, and future integrations.
More importantly, each customer who chooses the direct channel contributes to an asset that belongs to the business rather than increasing its dependence on another platform.
For Klik Alfa Medika, digital commerce is no longer only about being available online.
It is about owning a larger part of the relationship behind every purchase.
