Overview

Project overview

KORPRI publishes a range of information and editorial content for its members and the wider public. As part of its digital presence, the organization needed a more engaging way to present publications directly through its main website.

Suova developed a custom digital flipbook engine that transforms conventional digital publications into an interactive, page-based reading experience.

Rather than treating a publication as a separate file or isolated piece of content, the flipbook was designed to become part of the KORPRI website experience itself. Visitors can explore publications through a dedicated reader interface while staying within the organization's digital environment.

The solution was built as a reusable module, allowing the same underlying engine to support multiple publications without requiring a new reading experience to be developed for each one.

Challenge

Moving Beyond Static Document Viewing

Digital publications often begin as documents designed for print. When they are brought to the web without adapting the reading experience, users are often left with a basic document viewer or a file that needs to be opened separately.

KORPRI needed an experience that felt more integrated with its website.

The challenge was not simply to display pages. The reading experience needed to provide clear navigation, maintain the visual character of each publication, and give users a natural way to move through content in a format that feels closer to reading a magazine or book.

At the same time, the solution needed to work beyond a single publication.

Building a dedicated interface for every new edition would create unnecessary development overhead and make the experience harder to maintain over time. The underlying system therefore needed to separate the flipbook experience from individual publication content.

This meant designing the project as both a user-facing experience and a reusable web module that could become part of KORPRI's broader digital publishing workflow.

Solution

A Custom Flipbook Engine Built for the Web

Suova designed and developed a custom flipbook engine specifically for integration with KORPRI's main website.

At the center of the solution is a dedicated reading interface that presents publication pages in a more interactive format. Navigation and reading controls were designed around the content itself, keeping the interface straightforward while giving users a more engaging way to move through a publication.

Instead of building the experience around one specific document, the flipbook was structured as a reusable module.

This modular approach separates the reading experience from the publication being displayed. New publications can use the same engine and interface, helping maintain consistency while reducing the need to rebuild the viewer for every piece of content.

The final module was integrated into KORPRI's existing website so that the flipbook feels like part of the platform rather than a separate digital product.

The result is a custom publication experience that combines interface design, frontend engineering, and website integration within a single reusable solution.

Project story

Designed as a Reusable Digital Publication Module

A key consideration throughout the project was reusability.

The flipbook was designed as an independent module that could handle the presentation and interaction layer of digital publications while remaining flexible enough to work with different content.

This approach created a clearer separation between the publication itself and the functionality used to display it.

The interface focuses on the essential parts of the reading experience, including page presentation, navigation, publication context, and user interaction. By keeping these responsibilities within a dedicated module, the experience can evolve without requiring major changes across the rest of the KORPRI website.

Integration was equally important.

Rather than creating an external destination for digital publications, the flipbook experience was incorporated into the main KORPRI website. This creates a more continuous journey between discovering a publication and reading it.

From a product engineering perspective, the project was not only about recreating the visual behavior of a physical book. It was about building a maintainable digital publishing component that KORPRI could continue to use as its publication library grows.

Results

Creating a Stronger Digital Publishing Experience

1 Engine

Reusable Flipbook Module

A custom flipbook engine designed as a reusable module for multiple KORPRI digital publications.

1 Website

Seamless Website Integration

The flipbook experience was integrated directly into KORPRI’s main website, keeping users within the same digital environment.

100%

Cross-Device Reading Experience

The interface adapts across desktop, tablet, and mobile to provide a consistent and accessible reading experience.

Outcome

A Scalable Foundation for KORPRI's Digital Publications

The project gave KORPRI a dedicated digital publication experience that goes beyond displaying static documents on the web.

By combining a custom flipbook interface with a reusable module architecture, Suova created a solution that serves both the immediate reading experience and KORPRI's longer-term digital publishing needs.

Visitors can explore publications through an experience that feels connected to the main KORPRI website, while the organization gains a reusable foundation for presenting future publications through the same digital experience.

For Suova, the project demonstrates how focused product engineering can turn a familiar content format into a more thoughtful digital experience without introducing unnecessary complexity.
